Sport24.co.za | Djokovic backed to come good in Miami

Cape Town – Former British No 1 Greg Rusedski believes Novak Djokovic will be back to his best at the Miami Open this week following his early exit from Indian Wells.

World No 1 Djokovic started the BNP Paribas Open as the clear favourite, but he was stunned in the third round by German Philipp Kolschreiber.

The Serb went to Indian Wells without his mentor Marian Vajda, but the two will be reunited at Miami this week and Rusedski thinks he will be “the man to beat”.

“Novak Djokovic is going to re-emerge,” he told Amazon Prime UK. “I think he’s got to be the favourite for the title because [his coach] Marian Vajda is back in town. He would have flown in early so he’s the man to beat.

“Dominic Thiem is going to have another good week because the conditions are slow and windy.

“From a British perspective I think [Kyle] Edmund and Dan Evans are going to do brilliant again as well. It looked like Edmund got his mojo back having won seven matches in a row and he looks healthy.

“So I think I cannot wait for Miami to start.

“I’m going Djokovic. Novak is going to make a statement.”
