Rio Ferdinand aimed a cheeky dig at Liverpool supporters ahead of their Premier League title run-in, by claiming plastic fans have been popping up all over the shop.

The Manchester United legend joked that people have come out of the wood work to express their support for Jurgen Klopps men after 20 years of being silent.

Liverpool are neck-and-neck with Manchester City at the top of the table as the Reds bid to win the Premier League for the first time.

They last won the domestic league title back in the 1989/90 season – before it was rebranded as the Premier League.

And Ferdinand mocked those previously silent Liverpool fans who are starting to speak before theyve won anything and admitted he wanted Manchester City to pip them to the title.

Itd be a lot more painful to see them win the league [over Man City], but listen the best team will win it and whoever that is well done.

While Liverpool are still in contention for the Premier League and Champions League titles, domestic rivals Manchester City are on for an unprecedented quadruple.

Having already won the League Cup, they are still fighting on three fronts in the FA Cup, Premier League and Champions League as Pep Guardiola looks to make even more history.
