Man sues cruise line for $10m after breaking his pelvis in trampoline accident

by Metro

A 25-year-old man is suing a cruise line for $10 million after he broke his pelvis in a trampoline accident.

Casey Holladay was jumping on the ships Sky Pad trampoline on Royal Carribeans Mariner of the Seas cruise in February when his harness snapped and he came crashing down on the deck, which can be seen in video captured by Holladays girlfriend.

Holladay fractured his pelvis and dislocated his shoulder when he hit the ground. The cruise had to be shortened after the incident so Holladay could be taken back to Miami, Florida where he underwent surgery.

I just felt the momentum release from my body that I wasnt being held by anything anymore. When I hit, all I really remember is the hit and the noise and the fear, Holladay told NBC 6.

Its kind of one of those cliché moments when your life changes in the blink of an eye.

Holladay was also dismayed to find out that while he was lying on the deck, cruise staff was busy trying to prevent the incident from being recorded on his friends cell phone, instead of helping him. Holladays lawyer did not immediately reply to requests to release the video.

100 percent – all staff should have been attending to me. They just had the most horrific incident around, he said.

After being brought back to Florida, Holladay spent nine days in the hospital. Now, he uses a wheelchair and a walker to get around his Sarasota, Florida home.

Holladay has since filed his lawsuit with the help of an expert maritime attorney, Brett Rivkind, who is pursuing $10 million from the cruise line.

He suffered very severe debilitating injuries, Rivkind said.

The video shows there was a stronger interest in preventing other passengers from videotaping and preserving the evidence that paying attention to Casey. Thats appalling.

Holladay said that he has months of rehabilitation ahead of him and wants others to know what happened to him.

Thats the scariest part. It could have happened to anybody, he said.

The cruise line has released this statement regarding the incident: We operate all our ships safely, professionally, and responsibly. We do not comment on pending litigation.
